Want some great new instruments for GB? Check out at VersionTracker. Here is what you get. 3 Solo Trumpets. A Solo Violin. A Clarinet. A Panflute.

An Oboe. A Bassoon. A 5-String Banjo. A Sitar. 4 Accordions.

A Vibraphone. A Rainstick. 4 Harps. 3 Unusual String Ensembles. A Church Choir You may think you already have several of these in, say JamPack 4. However, the violins in this set sound warmer and have a harder attack than JP4.

The Church Choir set is really great, and the Vibraphone will sound like a Marimba when set an octave lower. Nota bene: I believe that the installer for the Boldt 24-pack assumes that you have your Instruments folder in the default location on your primary drive. If you have installed the software instruments elsewhere (which is an option with GB3), there may be problems with using the Boldt 24-pack installer as is. I had a brief email chat about this with Ben Boldt a week or so ago and, for GB3 isntallations with the instruments in non-default locations, he recommended using Pacifist to open up the Boldt 24-pack package so that one could then manually drag the files where they are supposed to go (which, he said, was pretty obvious once you got that far). He also said he would be looking into creating a new version of his installer to cope with non-default software instrument installations, but I doubt he's finished it yet.

At the top of the 'Info' window, there will be a drop down menu that says, 'Show All.' Click on that menu and (assuming it is installed properly.) you will see 'Install Boldt 24-Pack' as an option.

Select that and then choose from any of the instruments listed. If that didn't work, then they weren't installed correctly. Remember to switch it back to 'Show All' or you may forget and freak out that you can't access any other instruments (as I have done very early in my GB experience). X Oct 11, 2006 11:06 PM. Happy to help. Now get to work!

X Well.that's weird.I THOUGHT I had posted after this one but it's not there. Because I remember writing back to xs4is that I'd like to get to work with these new instruments but I couldn't because they had suddenly disappeared from the Track Info browser.

The Boldt 24-pack and Fitch cello are still listed in the pull-down menu but when they're selected the list of instruments is empty. I even removed and reinstalled this stuff and they are still not showing up. Where does one go from here? Alan b G5 2.5 3.5 GbRAM Mac OS X (10.4.8) Oct 18, 2006 2:55 PM. Oh, and can I also add, my Track Info browser seems to be all kerflooey.

I've got all these GB instruments listed but there is no sound coming out. There is a volume slider below the list betewen the 'Input' and the 'Monitir' pop-up menus and it is set at the far left (muted) and is grayed-out preventing me from changing it. Also, when I bring up the Musical Typing windowm the GUI displays the 'notes' I'm tapping on the keyboard but there is no sound.

Similarly, if I go to the Keyboard window the whole thing is grayed-out and I cannot play anything with it. BTW I just trashed GB prefs and trashed all Fitch and Boldt files so this report is current with that attempted fix. Oct 18, 2006 3:41 PM. Now I'm really confused. First of all, aren't the Fitch Cello and the Boldt 24-pack real instruments? When they worked for me I did nothing special to access them.

Second, if that's the case with the volume slider, how do I select software instruments? Last time I was able to use the Musical Typing or Keyboard I did nothing to enable it. I opened the window, selected an instrument and away I went. I look now at the browser and there is no option for me other than Real Instrument. Does this sound like GB needs to be reinstalled? Now I'm really confused. First of all, aren't the Fitch Cello and the Boldt 24-pack real instruments? If you can play them with a MIDI keyboard, they are not. MIDI is software. Second, if that's the case with the volume slider, how do I select software instruments?

These have nothing to do with each other. The Volume Slider is for a 'real' track only, you would have had to create it yourself. Last time I was able to use the Musical Typing or Keyboard I did nothing to enable it. A brand new GB project starts out with a MIDI ('software') track.

Create a new project and you can use the keyboard and select other software instruments, such as the ones you're trying to use. If you create a 'real' track', the only thing you'll be able to record is audio (A guitar, a Mic. I opened the window, selected an instrument and away I went.

I look now at the browser and there is no option for me other than Real Instrument. The 'browser' only has loops, so you're likely just using the wrong term here. Under the Track menu, pick 'New Track'. Select 'software' and then you'll be able to select a software instrument in track Info. Does this sound like GB needs to be reinstalled? Oct 18, 2006 8:44 PM.
